SATNAM SINGH BHAMARA

The seven feet-two inches tall athlete is the face of Indian Basketball. He became the first Indian to be drafted into the NBA when the Dallas Mavericks chose him in the 2015 NBA draft. He plays in the center position.

Born in 1995, in Baloke, a village in the Punjab, Satnam was introduced by Basketball by his father. He participated in youth leagues in Punjab and did very well. He was ten when his father enrolled him in the Ludhiana Basketball Academy (LBA) in Ludhiana, which aimed at tapping and promoting talent in 14-18-year-olds from Punjab and adjoining states.

Satnam was 14 when he led the Punjab state youth team to a national championship in June 2010, prompting the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) to select him for an NBA Basketball Without Borders camp in Singapore. He was awarded a scholarship under the IMGR basketball training academy and he shifted to Bradenton, Florida in September 2010. He played high school basketball at IMG Academy, a private athletic training institute headquartered in Bradenton, Florida. He represented the Indian national basketball team at the FIBA Asia Championships in 2011, 2013 and 2017. He joined the Dallas Mavericks for the NBA Summer League in July 2015 and was acquired by the Texas Legends in October that year. The Legends reacquired him for the 2016-17 NBA D-League season and he returned to Dallas Mavericks for the 2017 NBA Summer League.
