One of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen in the country, Smit Patel was an integral part of the Indian team that won the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2012. He was impressive behind the stumps and averaged nearly 60 with the bat in the tournament. In the final against Australia, he arrived at the wicket with his team a shaky 97-4, needing 130 more to win. He proceeded to score 62 and take India to a famous win in the company of Unmukt Chand, his captain. Patel excelled for the Gujarat senior team in the 2014-15 season. He scored 305 runs from five games in the limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also starred in Gujarat’s triumph in the inter-state T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored a half-century in a low-scoring final against Punjab, sealing the game with a six off the last ball. Patel is presently representing Tripura in domestic cricket.
